See what 2016 Faculty Participants had to say about their NCGTS experience!
"What an excellent professional development opportunity! Definitely the best I've attended. It gave me a chance to interact with teachers from different institutions and different disciplines, and pick up practical ideas and strategies to improve my teaching. The activities and structure were participant driven and quite fun. Everything was top notch -- the location at the Trinity Center, the food, the friendliness of the seminar staff -- knowledgeable, helpful, and ALWAYS cheerful. I highly recommend this to all community college teachers."
"The NCGTS is a place to be rejuvenated and to find strength, hope, and a newfound enthusiasm for the jobs we love so much! It will not disappoint!"
"The seminar provided a great opportunity to focus on teaching, with enough time for reflection, discussion, and affirmation. I left the seminar with a renewed zeal toward my teaching and a real appreciation of my fellow colleagues."
"The experience brought back memories of why I went into teaching in the first place. It helped me press the reset button."
"Relaxed pacing so I had time to reflect; choices to sit quietly or speak out when I was was ready or had something to contribute; diversity of group - many disciplines represented; wealth of ideas I brought home from other teachers; all of the laughter and enjoyable moments; the strong message that it was good for us to laugh; and best of all: I returned home feeling better about myself as a teacher and having a greater appreciation for community college instructors. Despite everything, we are smart, we care about what we do, we know how to be effective teachers."
"After over 30 years of teaching, I appreciate a break from the classroom, especially one such as this excellently planned seminar. The absence of a pre-planned itinerary has always intrigued me and is the reason the great teacher movement has succeeded and endured so long. There should be a requirement at all the community colleges in North Carolina that faculty attend at least one time. We shared ideas and experiences that will not only help me in my teaching, but will serve as a guide in my life. No seminar can exceed this one for its perfect blend of work and play."
"The North Carolina Great Teachers Seminar gave me the opportunity to learn from other community college educators while reflecting on my own teaching practice. Several consecutive days of professional development can sometimes be overwhelming, but the NCGTS is completely unlike any other experience. I left the seminar feeling refreshed, renewed, and inspired."
"I am incredibly grateful for this experience. Not only did I learn specific strategies to handle some of my particular teaching challenges, but I also had the opportunity to learn more about the art of teaching (whatever the discipline) and to connect with some amazing, inspiring folks who are dedicated to their craft and to their students. I feel refreshed, renewed, and reinvigorated! I'm looking forward to the next seminar..."
"I left feeling totally refreshed. I feel validated in some of the things that I am attempting to accomplish. I have made some new friendships that I hope last a very long time!"
"I have attended this seminar for the past three years and would not miss it for anything! NCGTS has given me tools that I can implement into the classroom immediately and the fellowship is awesome!"
