Welcome to the 21st Annual North Carolina Great Teachers Seminar!  Here you will find everything you need to know in preparing for your participation in the 2014 NCGTS.  Please read the following information carefully.  The most FAQ’s are here.  Some information may have changed a bit since your attendance in past seminars.

Pre-Seminar Reception:  5:15 – 6:00 PM at the Fireplace Lounge (Kanuga Inn)
Registration Time:  2:00 – 5:00 PM
First NCGTS Session:  7:00 – 9:00 PM (Thursday evening)
Final NCGTS Session:  9:00 AM – 12:00 Noon (Sunday morning; lunch included)

About Family Members & Pets:  The Kanuga facilities cannot accommodate family members and/or pets at the Inn during the Seminar.

Entertainment:  Bring any games, puzzles, musical instruments you wish.  There will be opportunities to enjoy these amenities.  I know there will be guitars, drums, etc… there.  If you play something, bring it.

Smoking:  The Kanuga facilities are smoke-free.  However, there are places to smoke.

Seminar registration begins in the Lobby Area of the Inn at the Kanuga Conference Center between 2:00 – 5:00 PM on Thursday, February 20, 2014.  Relax, refresh, and refuel . . . by enjoying a complimentary reception in the Fireplace Lounge area from 5:15-6:00 PM.  Our first meal will be served by the friendly Kanuga staff from 6:00-6:45 PM in the Dining Hall.

NCGTS participants are expected to attend all seminar sessions and activities in order to insure maximum benefit from the Seminar process.  Your participation is ESSENTIAL for a successful GT experience!

Forty (40) copies of a one-page (max length) “paper” describing a personally attempted teaching Innovation, successful or unsuccessful.  The paper may include a BRIEF description of the instructional need or circumstances that generated your innovation.  You may also bring a brief analysis of its relative success or failure.  Each participant will receive a copy of every paper.  Please print on 8½ x 11, 3-hole punched paper and include your name, school address, phone, e-mail, etc… somewhere on the page.

AND

Forty (40) copies of a BRIEF one-page (max length) “paper” describing a Problem in Teaching for which you have not yet found a satisfactory answer or solution. This paper may analyze the problem or merely pose your questions for discussion.  Copies of this paper also will be distributed to all participants. Again… please print on 8½ x 11, 3-hole punched paper and include your name, school address, phone, e-mail, etc… somewhere on the page.

OR 

You can SIMPLY put both the Innovation & Problem “papers” on A SINGLE SHEET of paper.  A paragraph each that briefly explains your ideas is sufficient!  If you do that, just make 40 copies as above and bring that single sheet with you!  Again… please print on 8½ x 11, 3-hole punched paper and include your name, school address, phone, e-mail, etc… somewhere on the page.

AND

► ANY single Teaching Device or Strategy, homemade or commercial, subject oriented or universally applicable, which has enhanced your teaching effectiveness.  Bring ANYTHING from your bag of tricks!  Presentation time of this device or strategy is limited to 1 – 3 minutes.

AND…

► One copy of a book relating to teaching which you have found helpful or inspiring.  Your selection will become part of a Browsing Library at the Seminar.

► A 3-Ring Notebook (optional)
